<p>This book is unique because it starts with challenges that end users deal with every day when using the Microsoft collaboration platform to support business processes. Microsoft SharePoint products and technologies have become increasingly popular as a collaboration solution for organizations. A large reason for this is the seamless integration of its features into the Office desktop tools. However, many developers have yet to take advantage of this platform and the power it holds to solve problems in the workplace. Our book will take a practical problem/solution approach to common business challenges. The goal is not just to provide the reader with some interesting code samples, but for them to see the Microsoft collaboration platform as a set of services and our examples as patterns in how they can be combined. The book’s solutions will focus on using Visual Studio Tools for Office to build the user interface layer. The exciting thing about extending the Office desktop tools is that business users already know how to use them. This will increase user adoption and even quicken development time. The book’s solutions will interact with SharePoint as a service provider taking advantage of its many collaboration features including document repositories, collaboration sites, and search.
